Literature Text

Like the small hungry appletrees
the world left waiting
raised in closed rooms
with little light
they grew tall and died
those silent millions
the death they feared
and could have avoided.
Who can find one original sin
in all of you?
For what is sin
to the inanimate,
hungry hangdog vegetable
depressing to look at
what you've become.
The earth did not kill you
nor the wind nor the cold
(unseen killers indeed
are not blamed nor mentioned)
You left yourselves
to wither-
the unspeakable crime
that so many lay fruitless
after the trial.
This poem is a little more recent and inspired by those who can not take action, make a committment or climb out of safety zones to make a difference.
